Parenting is not just about buying tons of baby shoes in Malaysia, and posting cute baby selfies on social media. You need to teach your baby how to connect well with the things around them, most especially animals. Below are some tips that can teach them how to give respect to other living creatures.
Read books about animals.
Several children’s books out there speak of animals and nature on a positive light. Read these kinds of books to your baby. Provide interesting details about certain creatures, such as lions and elephants. This can spark respect, and help develop empathy.
Watch animal movies or televisions shows.
Sometimes, your kid is not in the mood to read books. Each time this happens, turn to the television. Watch a movie or TV show that features many kinds of animals. Find a good show that wills how many creatures in their natural habitat. Help your child sympathize with animals.
Set a good example. Start with yourself.
Babies, toddlers and older children learn by observing the people around them. One of the most effective ways to reach your child to respect animals is to serve as a role model for them. If you have pets at home, never yell or kick them. Love them like a family member.
Show genuine kindness to all animals.
If you really want your children to be kind and loving to animals, you need to genuinely practice that, too. It can be a challenge to love all types of creatures, but try doing it for your kids. For instance, you can use humane traps to catch pests like mice and cockroaches.
Skip entertainment shows that harm animals.
Skip any live show, movie or televisions how that disrespect animals. Circuses are one of them. A simple deed like this can go along way.
Consider adopting a pet.
In case you have the inclination and time, consider bringing home a new pet. Pet care can help your kids respect animals and love them unconditionally. It can be a dog, cat, fish or hamster. Let your child learn how to care of these animals, and love them like members of your own family.
